Episode 40: ‘How To Have An Amicable and Peaceful Divorce’ -Megan Piccardi
I wanted to tackle divorce because I don’t think that we can shy away from it. In Australia, the divorce rate for marriages is about 40% and around 46% of divorces involve children. I’m the product of divorce (actually 3 of them growing up) and each of them were different.
There’s a growing movement around collaborative, amicable and gentle divorces. In fact, when I asked Megan recently how things were going she replied ‘it was a great day, the couple went into mediation, came to a conclusion and both took the kids out to sushi’.
Divorce doesn’t have to be messy and with collaborative family lawyers (there is such a thing!) we can be guided to reducing trauma for both the adults and children. This episode is great, eye-opening and progressive. I am not going to dig my head in the sand about divorce, because it does happen.
How can we make it as peaceful as possible?
