I know that you’re reading this because you’ve wanted to find a bit more about these 7 ways to love yourself that I am going to share with you.
This is a topic is SO near and dear to my heart. I have such a long history with distorted body image, unhealthy relationships with food and hating the way that I look. When I look back on almost every single photo I can tell you what state I was in when I came to food/weight/body love. It’s scary, but it’s something that it releasing from me.
I also know that my health routine, both mentally & physically, plummets when I’m overly busy, overly stressed, over-committed and living my life in the ‘hustle lane’.
So the first thing I want you to do…right now…is to take a deep breath.
We live in a demanding world, with demanding schedules, but we don’t have to take ourselves down with it.
Here are my 7 Ways To Love Yourself (in a hectic world)
1. Set aside time for yourself
I have ALWAYS felt that alone time, exercise, meditation was luxury.
‘I don’t have time to do that!’
But this is what you need most. Even if its just FIVE minutes a day of intentional time with your thoughts–journaling, prayer, yoga, exercise, meditation…whatever it is…spend time on this.
2. Admit that you’re feeling off
This is huge for me. Looking back I should have seemed professional help quicker, but I always felt like ‘I wasn’t that bad’.
I know sometimes it’s hard to admit that you need some assistance with helping your mind process your thoughts.
However, asking for help or seeking professional help is something I’m a huge proponent of. I am unashamed in saying I have sought and still regularly see a Clinical Pyschologist.
3. Forgive yourself
The first part of any healing is forgiving yourself.
I have found a DEEP help with this through prayer and yoga. The first time I went to Yin Yoga, I cried for over 1/2 of the class. We hold so much anger and resentment in our souls for the things which we don’t think we’ve done right.
We have to release these anchors through intentional workaround shame-guilt-deprivation.
4. Cultivate joy in your life
One of the areas which I work a lot with my clients whom I’m Life Coaching with, is on identifying and cultivating joy.
We so often stop doing things that we LOVE because we are so focused on creating a life that we think others would want to see.
So, give yourself permission to go and do the things which you love. When you’re in a place of joy, often the negative space that we can wallow in dissipates.
5. Rest – with intention
I am a perfectionist and have a workaholic tendency in me. So I can fry my adrenals very quickly and get into a really destructive pattern with work.
I have to be incredibly mindful of giving myself space to rest & restore — and to NOT feel guilty about it.
Give yourself permission to rest, to have a lazy day, to turn off social media. Spend time allowing your spirit to be nourished by uncluttered days.
6. Compassionate language
It may seem simplistic, but one of the most amazing things you can do is to speak to yourself with more compassion.
When you are looking at your body, speak to it lovingly.
Praise it for carrying babies, birthing babies, trekking around the world, making love to your partner.
Shower your inner-critic with compassion, grace and kindness.
I often ask my life coaching clients ‘how would your life change if you showed up with more compassion for yourself?’
7. Re-focus your thoughts on gratitude
When we have a mindset focused on gratitude, we can make some pretty profound mindset shifts.
Our thoughts are actions.
They drive how we feel, how we eat, how we interact and how we live. How we think of ourselves, how we treat our bodies.
Begin to shift your thoughts into a daily practice of gratitude. Create light and abundance and gratitude in your thoughts.
I hope that you have enjoyed these tips, because they have been the guiding light for me in my healing journey.
